FAQ / How to Hire Entertainment

If you aren't asking these questions, perhaps you should be...

Q:    How much do you charge?  Consider this:  If you were in a position to hire an employee for your company, would you base your hiring decision solely on the candidates' salary requirement?  It's not likely.  Instead, wouldn’t you filter the candidates using criteria you might find on their resumes and then interview the top few qualified people?  Note that the most experienced, prepared and effective candidates will likely require the highest salary while the rookies may undercut the lowest price just to get their foot in the door.
A:  Our rates are commensurate with the services we provide.  Currently, we offer expert DJs available for classy events, fun events and complex/elaborate occasions.  Our rates vary and can generally be found on our rates/package options page, but...

How important is music to your event?  If your plans put music into a background role with few, if any, announcements and a low desire to have guests be entertained, then you may put less weight on selecting a disc jockey.  On the other hand, if the event is going to be a memorable lifetime occasion that won’t be repeated, then selecting the right entertainer is more critical. 
This is a question for you to answer.  If planning a wedding reception, bar/bat mitzvah or other life occasion, your reception entertainment may have a large responsibility.  For a class reunion, picnic, summer or birthday party, school dance or other semi-repeatable event, less importance may be afforded to hiring quality entertainment.  It's up to you.

Q:  How much experience do we have providing services at a _______?  In our society, there is a wide range of styles of DJs available.  Some are good at playing music at bars, others follow a script at a radio station and there are also DJs who are good at entertaining an audience at your type of event.
A:  Our services have been focused on doing one thing really well: providing fun entertainment for our clients.  We like to play fun music from from a variety of genres, appropriate for the crowd and event.  Interacting with the audience and keeping the energy level up, makes it fun for us too.  We provide services to only one client per day, per DJ, and have focused our advertising on weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, corporate banquets and school and formal dances.  We also entertain at birthday parties, pool parties and the like... most any event where a fun DJ is needed.

Q:  What do we mean by crowd interaction?  Some DJs consider speaking to the guests when they are approached for a request as “interaction” while others may consider interaction to mean going to the dance floor to teach guests how to do a dance.  Might you need someone who will break the ice and get things going if the audience needs a boost? 
A:  We are aware and concerned about each and every guest enjoying themselves and will work within our client's parameters and expectations to ensure that everyone has a great time.  Our services include the option for our clients to select a variety of interactive dances, activities, contests and traditional events that we will lead.  We are willing to entertain your guests, within your parameters, or provide a less interactive role, if desired.

Q:  What quality level of equipment do we provide (what does it look and sound like)?  Imagine muffled announcements or a buzz during the entire event or having part of your beautifully decorated event contain an eyesore of wires and beat up equipment or even a large sign that reads:      DJ for Hire 717-123-4567 
A:  We will surely exceed your expectations in this category.  Crisp, clear music at an appropriate volume is presented in an attractive installation that even considers the best placement for speakers acoustically and logistically.  We work with our clients on room layouts to ensure the best service and coverage of our sound and lighting equipment.  We never buy the cheapest equipment available and often find that we have really overdone ourselves.  No signs, no ugly wires, no messy clothes.  Check out our bio page at some point for some photos.

Q:  What are our backup plans regarding equipment problems or an illness?  If you will be relying on the DJ, don’t you want to know what their backup plans are just in case something goes wrong?  Backup plans can range from a useless pair of headphones to a complete range of preparations.
A:  We are prepared for over 30 scenarios including staffing, equipment, music, wardrobe issues and even physical well-being.  We are prepared for potential issues that you may have and need resolved during the course of the event.  Anything that happens along the way, we can likely handle it.

Q:  Are we just a DJ?  Do you need an emcee at your event, a coordinator, an interactive crowd-motivator or a lighting designer/technician?  Will the entertainer narrate your event, do stand up comedy or wear a chicken suit for laughs?  What style of performance will they provide?  
A:  Our planning process is very thorough... We want your event to be successful and that means that we need to know your preferences, ideas, goals and parameters.  We'll play the music, organize participants and professionals, ensure that everything that's needed is in place before we introduce an event to the audience, we emcee the major activities and monitor the mood of the room and pace of the itinerary.  We will make your event a success!

Q:  Do we provide a written guarantee?  This really says something about a DJ's ethics, confidence in their services and willingness to ensure your satisfaction.  No guarantee... that would say something too.
